There is a little legend, which says: "Once, the Prussian Prince (Grand
Elector) Friedrich Wilhelm I (1620-1688) was dining in the local Inn during
his brief stay in Gizycko. The innkeeper served him three carps and the
fish was to such a liking of the Prince, he decided to grant the city its
Coat-of-Arms, three carps on the shield, exactly as he had seen them on
his plate" Unfortunately, the legend has a serious problem with history
as the Coat of Arms was really granted well before prince's birth, in 1612.
