Purple represents the coffee plantations, recalling that Jinotepe is the
place where the first coffee plant was grown in Nicaragua.
Yellow represents
the Roman Catholic faith and devotion to the patron saint, St. James [also
represented on the coat of arms by the red cross-sword]; Jinotepe organizes the
country's second biggest patron holidays and the country's most popular
pilgrimage, during which the statue of St. James is carried for 14 days through
the mountains. These traditions are more than four centuries old.
Blue
represents the water of the rivers and their stainless beaches, such as Rio La
Flor, Huehuete, Playa Hermosa, Tupilapa, Piedra Pintada and Veracruz de Acayo.
