Kalifi County is located north and northeast of Mombasa,
bordering the Indian Ocean. The capital is Kalifi and the largest town is
Malindi. Tourism and fishing are major economic activities due to its
proximity to the Indian Ocean. The county boasts good beaches and has popular
resorts and hotels.

The county's administration organized a public contest for the design of the
county's symbols (flag, coat of arms and seal). The deadline for submissions was
24 May 2013. The county symbols must capture the diversity and social
economic potential of the County which should include, but not be limited to:
• Unity and Cultural diversity
• Tourism (the Indian Ocean, Marine life and the beaches along the ocean)
• Agriculture (farming including coconut farming, irrigation and livestock)
• Education and Human Resource Development (including sports, culture and
performing arts)
• Resilient, hardworking and hopeful communities.
The designs presented will be subjected to public views after which the winning
designs will be adopted.

The new flag of Kalifi County takes is basic design from the national flag of
Kenya and comprises five horizontal stripes. The
central green stripe is fimbriated in white, with the top stripe being dark
orange and the bottom stripe being light blue. The emblem of the county is
superimposed within an Masai shield in the centre of the flag.
