Borujerd (234,997 inhabitants in 2016) is the second largest town in Lorestan
(western Iran).
The emblem features a samovar. The samovar - in Persian,
a samavar - is a metal container that can be heated. They are traditional in
Russia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Samavars became customary in Persia
about 200 years ago as a result of political contact between Persia and Russia.
Persian artisans often decorated the samavars with local or traditional themes.
The Persian samavar is often made of German silver, and produced in the province
of Borujerd. Hand-made samovars from Borujerd have also been exhibited at
museums in the West.
