Awakening's gilded flag, which he designed and which features a sword, scales of
justice, and, less explicably, a coffee pot..."

suggests:
"I'm sure a more informed emailer will more convincingly make this point, but if
I'm not mistaken in Arab culture coffee (gahwa) is ritually offered to guests as
a sign of welcome and hospitality...."
