The municipality of Leganiel (193 inhabitants in 2014; 4,510 ha) is
located in the north-west of the Province of Cuenca, on the border with
the Province of Guadalajara, 100 km of Cuenca and 100 km of Madrid.
Leganiel was first documented on 21 March 1553, when granted the status
of villa, separating from Huete. Previously, the village appeared to
have been ruled by the Order of Calatrava.

The flag of Leganiel is prescribed by an Order issued on 12 September
2008 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 3 October
2008 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 204, p. 31,304 (text).
The flag is described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3, diagonally divided in three stripes from lower hoist to upper fly, the upper stripe, yellow, the central stripe, white, and the lower stripe, blue. Charged in the center with the crowned coat of arms.
The coat of arms of Leganiel is prescribed by an Order issued on 12
September 2008 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on
3 October 2008 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 204,
pp. 31,304-31,305 (text).
The coat of arms is described as follows:
Coat of arms: Rectangular shield divided in three quarters. 1. Gules a three-towered castle argent masoned sable port and windows azure two lions rampant or accosty, 2. Argent a passion cross vert with the five wounds represented by five drops of blood. 3. Azure three mounts ensigned with bushes of esparto or. The shield surmounted with a Royal Spanish crown.
The Royal Academy of History rejected the proposed arms, which are
claimed to be based on "the most evident historical facts" without
further detail. The proposed design should be simplified and corrected.
The quarter grafted in base, which features a realistic representation,
is unnecessary. The charges of the first quarter are too small and
disproportionate in comparison with those of the second quarter. The
castle and the lions should be increased to fill in a balanced way the
space of the quarter. There is no justification to the odd addition of
the crown of the Prince of Asturias above the shield; the only
acceptable crown is the Royal Spanish crown. The coat of arms could be
modified as "Per pale, 1. Gules a castle argent port and windows azure
two lions or accosty, 2. Argent a Latin cross vert surrounded by the
five wounds gules. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown".
The Academy validated the proposed flag, provided the coat of arms is
modified as suggested.
