The flag of Mira was designed by Angel Isaac Ruíz Mena, winner of a public
contest organized by the municipality. On the left side, the green triangle
represents the everlasting spring of the canton's capital, which concentrates
the infinite aspiration to reach soon the top of glory. Of the triangle emerge
three green stripes representing the immense pastures and the fields covered of
greenness and the freshness of the parishes always united to the canton's
capital. The two white stripes represent peace and purity, innate attributes of
the generous souls of the inhabitants.
The white stripe located in the
triangle represents the town located in a field of permanent greenness,
embellished by the beautiful landscape composed of fragrant and beautiful
gardens. The stripe located in the upper stripe symbolizes the parish of Juan
Montalvo, which has lived asleep in eternal loneliness and aspires to a
diaphanous future. The central star represents the parish of La Concepción, a
village saturated with purity and inhabited by humble people surrounded by the
foaming of the singing water of river Mira. The star located in the lower stripe
represents the parish of Jijón y Caamaño, located in the most untouched region
of the canton, which shall take the train of progress laden with illusions and
aspirations to a better future.
