The Journées de la Persévérance Scolaire (JPS - Days of Student Retention)
have been organized in the Province of Quebec every year during the third week
of February since 2004. In 2010, the Quebec National Assembly unanimously
adopted a motion supporting the organization of the event. The Journées de la
Persévérance are inaugurated by the official hoisting of the program flag by
the institutions (municipalities, universities, schools) supporting the
program.
The first flag of the program, white with the emblem in the
center, was raised on 15 February 2003 over the municipal hall of the
South-West borough in Montreal by Samantha Sasseville and Philippe Ivanescu,
students at the Saint-Henri secondary school.

The emblem of the program is a light
green ribbon on a white background. The ribbon was introduced in 2009 by the
authority in charge of the program in the Lanaudière region (CREVALE). Green
is a symbol of youth and hope, while white is a symbol of the educational
community. The two, interlaced threads of the ribbon symbolize the union of
the two communities. The ribbon is manufactured by SERLAN, a company located
in the Lanaudière region employing mostly disabled people.

The flag was changed in 2016 to a light green flag with a large white disk in
the middle, tangent to the upper and lower edges of the flag and charged with
the emblem of the program. The flag is used either in proportions 1:2 or 2:3 (shorter
version). In
2016, the white flag was still used in some places while other already used the
new design.
