The municipality of Lindóia do Sul (4,642 inhabitants in 2010; 19,506 ha) is 
located 480 km west of Florianópolis.
Lindóia do Sul was established in 
1940 by a group of Italian immigrants in search of fertile soil. Arrived near 
river Engano menadring between green forests, they said “Lindo! Olha!" 
(Wonderful! Look at this!").
The municipality of Lindóia do Sul was 
established in 1990, separating from Concórdia.

The flag and arms of Lindóia do Sul is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 4 
promulgated on 11 January 1990.
Article 6.
The flag of the 
municipality of Lindóia do Sul shall be horizontally divided in three stripes, 
the upper, green, of 6 units in width, the lower, green, of 6 units in width, 
and the central, white, of 2 units in width, charged with an equilateral red 
lozenge, in width 1 unit and length 14 units, superimposed with a white lozenge 
inscribing the municipal coat of arms.
§1. In compliance with the 
Portuguese heraldry traditions, whose rules and norms were inherited by Brazil, 
the municipal flags shall be divided in eight, six or four, or three parts, 
using the same colors as the field of the coat of arms and featuring in the 
center or at hoist a geometric figure inscribing the municipal coat of arms.
§2. The municipal flag of Lindóia do Sul, in compliance with this general rule, 
shall be horizontally divided into three stripes. The coat of arms featured on 
the flag represents the municipal government while the equilateral lozenge 
inscribing the arms represents the town as the seat of the municipality. The red 
lozenge symbolizes dedication, courage, valiance, and the spread of municipal 
administration to the four quarters of the municipality. The central white 
stripe represents people's purity, clarity and commitment. The green upper and 
lower stripes represent the land and rural estates. Green is a symbol of hope, 
natural environment and agriculture and cattle-breeding, which are main 
resources of the municipality.
Article 7.
In compliance with heraldic 
rules, the municipal flag shall have the official dimensions prescribed for the 
national flag, 14 units in width and 20 units in length.
Article 19.
The coat of arms of Lindóia do Sul shall be described in proper heraldic 
language as follows: Shield surmounted by a crown argent. On a field vert 
superimposed a maize cob vert and or a hen's head gules and a pig's head argent. 
Beneath the shield a scroll gules inscribed in letters argent the toponym 
"LINDÓIA DO SUL" surrounded by date "01/JANEIRO E 1990".
The coat of arms 
shall have the following symbolic interpretation.
a) The crown surmounting 
the shield, symbol of the power of the town on the municipality, is argent 
(silver), representing peace, friendship, work, prosperity and religious 
feeling.
b) The field vert (green) symbolizes honor, civility, courtesy, 
glee, abundance. It is the symbolic color of hope, recalling green fields 
promising profuse harvests.
c) The maize cob, the hen's head and the pig's 
head represent the main sources of income for the municipality: agriculture, 
poultry breeding and pig breeding.
