Introduction

I have just seen a TV news footage showing the Australian Prime Minister John Howard on a secret visit to Afghanistan. During a meeting with the Afghan President Hamid Karzai, the Afghan and Australian national flags were displayed in the room, along with a black flag bearing the Afghan coat of arms in a red disc, which I believe is the Afghan presidential flag.
