The City was first known as Rumney Marsh, settled in 1626 (other sources
mention 1630) and was part of Boston between 1632-1739, when it became part of
the (then called) Town of Chelsea established by Rumney Marsh, Winnisemmet and
Pullen Point. Then, it was separately incorporated on March 19, 1846 as North
Chelsea (town) and changing its name to its current denomination, Revere (town)
on March 24, 1871, in honor of Paul Revere (1735–1818), the son of an immigrant
who took part in the American Revolutionary War. Revere had gained popularity
after the publication of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem "Paul Revere's Ride,"
ten years earlier. In 1915 it was formally incorporated as a City.

In addition, it
is not very common to see the flag displayed outdoors, as I visited the city
recently back in 2019 and really found nothing, and that the only flag I found
was in fact indoors, bearing a golden fringe around it.
