"Международный авиационно-космический салон (МАКС) (International Aviation
and Space Salon, MAKS) is an international aerospace exhibition held biennially
on odd years. The objective of the MAKS air show is to demonstrate leading
technologies and to open up the Russian aerospace industry to the international
market. The exhibition organizers are the Federal Agency for Industry (until
2009), the Moscow Government and Rostec and the
overall organizer is "ОАО (Открытое акционерное общество) 'Авиасалон'" (English:
OJSC (Open Joint Stock Company) "Aviasalon"), which was established on February
14, 1992.
The first show was dubbed "МосАэроШоу' 92" (short for Москва
АэроШоу) (English: Mosaeroshow-92, short for Moscow Aeroshow) was held in 1992
and since 1993, the air show was renamed as MAKS.
It traces its origins
to a series of diverse exhibitions such as "День Воздушного Флота Союза ССР
(день авиации)" (English: USSR Air Fleet Day (Aviation Day)), later the "День
Воздушного Флота России" (English: Russian Air Fleet Day) and the "День
Вое́нно-возду́шных сил" (English: Air Force Day), currently officially labeled
as "День Воздушно-космических сил Российской Федерации" (English: Day of the
Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation)
