The city emblem was adopted on Sep 30th 1958 by Notice No 14 but there is no flag law. The green flag has a white city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized hiragana はくい Hakui. The outer circle symbolizes a peace and the inside knot in a form of a pine needle does a solidarity. It represents an unlimited extension of the city.
