Shield Azure, a lion rampant Argent.
Meaning:
As seat of a court Bonndorf had own seals since the end of the 13th century. The first known print from 1304 already displayed a lion. As the tinctures were not known, he was interpreted as lion of the Zähringen kin (see: Badisches Städtebuch) or of the Counts of Habsburg (acc. to Otto Hupp). Since the 16th century the seals displayed various details of a bean, which had been erroneously considered to be canting for Bonndorf, which means beans village. Based on one of those seals Hupp painted arms displaying three shrubs of green broad beans eradicated golden. When Bonndorf gained the rank of a city in 1891, the lion pattern was restored in 1894.
