The municipality of Praia Grande (7,270 inhabitants in 2020; 27,858 ha), 
located on the border with Rio Grande do Sul, 300 km of Florianópolis, is Santa 
Catarina's southernmost municipality.
Praia Grande (Long Beach), not 
located on the seashore, is named for a huge sprawl of pebbles. The district of 
Praia Grande was established in 31 December 1943, to be elevated a municipality 
by State Law No. 348 promulgated on 21 June 1958.

Blue represents abundance of water in the municipality.
Green represents 
 the forests, the canyons, and all the forests' beauties.
Yellow represents 
 the municipality's resources.
Red represents fraternity, energy, and the 
 Italian and Azorean colonization.

The coat of arms of Praia Grande is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 164 
 promulgated on 23 August 1971.
Article 1.
The coat of arms of the 
 municipality of Praia Grande shall be composed of a shield surmounted by a 
 mural crown and divided into four quarters, as follows.
a) The first 
 quarter, covering the shield's upper part, shall feature a blue sky with golden 
 yellow sun rays, a schematic representation of the municipality's power.
b) 
 The second quarter, at the shield's right, with a bunch of bananas, 
 representing one of the municipality's sources of income.
c) The third 
 quarter, at the shield's left, with tobacco, another source of income for the 
 municipality.
d) The fourth quarter, with the municipality's landscape, 
 composed of trees, pastures, hills, sky, clouds and river Mampituba that 
 fertilizes the municipality.
Article 2.
In the shield's lower part, a 
 red and yellow scroll with the municipality's name and date of emancipation - 
 19 July 1958.
Article 3.
On the shield's left side, a sugar cane; on 
 the right side, maize, representing other crops produced in the municipality.
 
Article 4.
In the shield's center, a cross representing faith and 
 commitment to work.
Article 5.
The chief of the Executive is 
 authorized to have the municipal flag produced, in yellow, red, blue and green 
 colors.
