Flag of Atakum

The flag of Atakum is white with the municipality's emblem. "Belediyesi" means "Municipality".

The emblem of the municipality features Samsun's landmark, the Statue of Honour (presentation), an equestrian monument dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Atat&umul;rk (1881-1938). The monument recalls that Kemal landed on 19 May 1919 in Samsun, where he started the organization of a national movement, as a prerequisite to the War of Independence (1919-1922). The monument was designed by the Austrian architect Heinrich Krippel (1883-1945), commissioned by Governor Kazım Pasha. Of nearly 9 m in height, the monument was inaugurated in 1932.
