Coat of arms

[São Mamede (Batalha) commune CoA] image by Sérgio Horta, 21 Oct 2014

Shield Azure, in centre a windmill's wheel Sable rigged Argent. In chief a pine tree fruited Vert proper in both cantons, in base a lion passant Or.Mural crown argent with three visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading "S. MAMEDE - BATALHA" in black upper case letters.
Meaning:
The lion is an attribute of Sã o Mamede, who was a herdsman accompanied by the lion, who kept away from the herd the numerous beasts in the area. The wheel is symbolizing the many windmills, standing here in the pasr and being the economic base of flour production from corn and wheat. The pines are the predominant species in the commune
Please note that explanation mentions a pine and an olive tree, the description just two pines. Sérgio Horta describes the mural crown with three towers but in his image , and on the municipal website there are four towers.
