Area: 149.44 sq.km (57.7 sq.mi) Population: 10,510 (2006) First mentioned in 1362 City rights granted in 1458Most famous native son was Knight Janusz of Tuliszków - Castellan of Kalisz, royal envoy to the Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights, close friend of King Władysław Jagiełło, participant of the Battle of Grunwald (Tannenberg), after which made the royal governor (starosta) of Gdańsk (Danzig). Later represented the King and Poland at the Council of Constance (1414-18) and was the royal envoy to Hungary and Austria.
