Jaime Bausate y Meza, a journalism school established in Lima on 23 August 1958
by Asociación Nacional de Periodistas del Perú (ANP - National Peruvian
Association of Journalists).
Journalism was recognized as a profession by Law
No. 15,630 promulgated on 20 September 1965. Supreme Decree No. 23, promulgated
in 1984, allowed Escuela de Periodismo Jaime Bausate y Meza to deliver a
professional title to journalists.
Universidad Jaime Bausate y Meza was
eventually founded by Law No. 29,278, promulgated on 13 November 2008 by the
President of the Republic.
The university is named for Jaime Bausate y
Meza (Francisco Caballo y Mesa; 1764-1814), founder of the first daily in Latin
America, "El Diario Curioso, Erudito y Comercial de Lima".
