On January 1, 2020, the new municipality of Narvik was created by merging the 
former Narvik Muncipality, Ballangen 
Municipality and the eastern half of Tysfjord 
Municipality.

Norwegian blazon: På rød bunn et opprett gull anker. The English would make 
it: gules an anchor or. (The Norwegian blazon mentions that the anchor is 
"upright", but it is not necessary to state so in English, I guess.) The coat of 
arms was approved by the royal resolution of 1 June 1951, drawn by Halvar 
Trætteberg. The anchor symbolises, of course, that Narvik is the country's 
largest port.
