Blazon. I rødt en nedvendt vinget gull pil. In English: Gules a downwards
pointing winged arrow or.
Approved by the royal resolution of 7 August 1987 after a drawing by John Arne
Moseng. [c2j88]
The
municipal web site also adds that it was first used in the occasion of 150
anniversary of the municipal administration in Våler. The design reminds to the
legend that King Olav Haraldsson (St. Olav)  decided in 1022 on local
strife on where a church should be built, by shooting an arrow from his bow,
commanding that the church be erected wherever the arrow falls and thus Våler
was made. A winged arrow is a frequent medieval heraldic motif and the one
showing in the arms also reminds to the initial V for Våler.
