Located in Tobetsu Town Hokkaido Prefecture and established in 1974. The embroidered ceremonial flag has navy blue background with a gold symbol mark, horizontally written gold English university name and vertically written gold kanji university name with gold fringe. The university flag has navy blue background with a white symbol mark and white kanji university name written horizontally. (Source) The symbol mark consists of the initials "HH", which stands for "Hokkaido" and "Health Sciences University of Hokkaido", and a star in the shape of the Polar Star. The "H" rising in a smooth curve represents the rich humanity of the students and the improvement of medical science and technology supported by a broad educational system, and the star in the sky is the "light" guiding them, symbolizing the educational philosophy of the university, which aims at cooperation and integration of health, medicine, and welfare.
