The town emblem was adopted on Apr 1st 2005 by Notice No 1 but there is no
flag law. The blue flag has a white town emblem in the center. The emblem
depicts Agano River and a rich green nature. It represents an image of the city
which supports a shining town and a bright culture.

is now, from 2005, part of the town of Aga.

The design features a stylized version of the kanji character for “Kamikawa” 上川 encircling Mt. Mikaguradake at the top, symbolizing the unity of all villagers through harmony of heart.

The design is based on the hiragana characterか “ka”; the circle symbolizes peace and harmony in the town, while the arrow at the top represents the town’s progress.

The hiragana characterつ “tsu” is stylized into a circle to represent the Agano River, while the kanji character 川 “kawa” is stylized into a triangle to represent Mount Kirin.
