Started as idea to build an ultra-orthodox Jewish city in the
heart of the Shomron (Samaria) by the private venture of Kokhav
HaSomron Company. The building started in 1981 with first families
entering their homes in 1983, but the collapsing and the
liquidation of the initiating company in 1985 (same year that it
became a Local Council) brought things to halt never to be
recovered again. Pop: 2400 (2003). Name taken from the Bible
(Isaiah 7:14)
