Presentation of Lekenik

The municipality of Lekenik is located 20 km north-west of Sisak. Its population is around 6,500, the village Lekenik itself just above 1,500. It is maybe most well- know about the SOS Children's Village located there.

Flag of Lekenik

The flag of Lekenik (HRT, Croatian national TV, report) is a vertical flag, white with a light blue "Scandinavian" cross over which is set the coat of arms.
The symbols were probably not approved by the central authorities, unless they had already been approved in 1993 before the strict rules were introduced. Inspite of the obvious similarity I do not think that there is any "Finnish connection" in Lekenik, though probably Finland was among the countries that financially helped the municipality after the war in the 1990s.

The coat of arms of Lekenik (Croatia Tourist Guide, Leksikografski zavod Miroslav Krleža, Zagreb, 2000) is divided horizontally blue and green with a golden wooden house typical for the region, surrounded with a silver wreath of oak and vine leaves.
