Seeland Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess; above a bear issuant Sable armed and togued Gules, flanked in chief by six 5-point stars Azure, a triplet in each corner; beneath Azure a fish Argent.
Meaning:
The bear is taken from the Anhalt arms is alluding to the fact, that the region belonged historically to Anhalt. Furthermore he is representing Hoym. Each of the six stars is representing one of the municipalities, which formed the city by a merger. The fish is taken from the arms of Nachterstedt municipality and is furthermore representing Frose municipality. The fish is furthermore symbolising the recovery of a local lake and the improvement of environment.
The Hoym-Nachterstedt Municipal Community (German: Verwaltungsgemeinschaft) had been the city's 1st predecessor. It existed until 2005 and consisted of the municipalities of Friedrichsaue, Frose, Nachterstedt, Schadeleben and the city of Hoym . On 1 January 2005 it merged with Gatersleben Municipality and was renamed to Seeland Municipal Community. The community since then displayed seven stars in its arms. On 15 July 2009 five of the seven municipalities merged, forming Seeland city and the number of stars in the arms was reduced to five. On 1 September 2010 the Gaterleben Municipality joined the city and the 6th star in the arms was restored.
