Ottersweier Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, issuant from base a triplemount Sable, topped by a chalice Or with a Host Argent at its top and flanked by two 6-point-stars Argent.
Meaning:
Otterweier and Lauf (Ortenau county) formed a common lower court until 1805. A court seal from 1582 was mentioned, however the details remained unknown. The court seals from 1748 already displayed the current pattern plus three additional stars in chief. Later seals from the 19th century and boundary stones displayed simplified versions. The chalice possibly is an attribute of St. Barbara, patron of a chapel on the local graveyard. The arms are based upon seals from the 18th century. The tinctures had been chosen arbitrarily.
