Thecoat of arms was approved on 18 June 1965 and confirmed on 20 November 1972. The arms show in the dexter half the arms of the Margraves of Nürnberg from the dynasty of Brandenburg-Ansbach. The red demi-eagle with cloverstems is a modification of the arms of Brandenburg. The sinister half shows the arms of the city of Nürnberg. Both, the markgraves and the city had been former rulers in the county. The symbols on the base are representing agriculture and industry.
