Weilheim Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a silver (= white) shield is a light blue, upright key.The shield has a golden (= yellow) chief superimposed by a black attire.
Meaning:
Weilheim gained city rights in 1319 from Count Ulrich of Aichelberg, and the oldest seal dates from the same time. Prints exist since 1360. The seal showed the key as a symbol of St. Peter, the patron saint of the city. The attire, taken from the arms of Württemberg, was added in the 16th century (known since 1535), even though the city had become part of Württemberg in 1334. At first the attire was shown over the key, since 1639 separately in the chief. Sibmacher (1605) displayed a black key without attire.

Banner and coat of arms were approved before 1 April 1956, when the Municipality Charter (Gemeindeordnung) of Baden-Württemberg became valid.
