Weissach Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided by a silver (= white) baston sinister into red over blue. Above is a silver (= white) cross patty. Below is a golden (= yellow) duck's foot.
Meaning:
The red field is representing Weissach proper, while the blue field is representing the former municipality of Flacht, which had been incorporated on 1 December 1971. The cross is derived from a local symbol from 1628, which was used on border stones. The cross was also used on seals of the village mayor since about 1820. The cross is said to be a cross of expiation for Johann, anti-abbott of Maulbronn, who had been slain in Weissach in 1212. The colours red and white are those of the Counts of Neipperg. The golden duck's foot (German: Entenfuß) is taken from the arms of Johann Entenfuß, who was abbott of Maulbronn from 1512 until 1518. Flacht was a possession of Maulbronn Abbey until the Protestant Reformation.
