The Municipality

The municipality of Saint-Joseph-des-Érables (410 inhabitants in 2016; 5,240 ha) is located 80 km south-east of Quebec.

The first quarter represent religion, recalling the first chapel dedicated to St. Joseph, which was erected in 1737.
The second quarter represents agriculture, a significant source of income for the municipality.
The third quarter represents the Farms' Mill, built in the 18th century.
The fourth quarter represents a sawmill, recalling the municipality's second most important source of income.
Blue and red represent Quebec and Canada, respectively.
The inescutcheon recalls the name of the municipality. Green is a symbol of birth, connected to the motto.

The scrolls placed above and beneath shield shield are or, a color that recall the rich agricultural lands. The motto (French, "Land of Our Ancestors") recalls that Saint-Joseph was Beauce's first colonized place.
The maple supporters recalls the industry of sugar maple. The color of the leaves represents autumn, one of the most beautiful seasons in Chaudière valley.
