The municipality of Olds (9,184 inhabitants in 2016; 1,493 ha) is located 90
km north of Calgary.
Mayor Judy Dahl unveiled the Town of Olds’ new flag
at council’s priorities and policies meeting last Monday [23 January 2012]. The
flag shows the new logo, which was designed by the Edmonton firm McRobbie
Optamedia. The idea for a new logo came out of a rebranding exercise the town
undertook last spring, which was Phase I of the Promoting Olds project.

According to a handout provided by Dahl,
the “O” shape represents the relationship between the town and the
community, as well as future and fearlessness. The blue, yellow and green
colour scheme portrays the community’s energy and vibrancy, in addition to
its various facets. “The yellow that flows into the blue indicates the
geographic location. The shades of yellow pay tribute to the agriculture
history,” said Dahl. “The shades of blue reflect technology and innovation,
while the shades of green recognize the significance of the environment.”

Version 1: The main flag
still used.
The flag and logo were
introduced in 2012.
