Moberly Getting New City Flag

For the first time since the 1980s, Moberly will have a new city flag. City Manager Brian Crane says a flag design contest recently wrapped up.
The city council discussed the winning design during the work session Monday. The new Moberly flag design features a stylized blue M with five gold stars on the left side of the M and six gold lines to the right that represent railroad tracks. It is expected to receive final approval at the August 7th city council meeting.

In 2022, a citizen presented the city with the idea of replacing the city’s flag with a more appropriate flag. The city asked Moberly Community Betterment (MCB) to hold a contest for a new flag. After the contest concluded, MCB scored and ranked the 9 entries for presentation to the city council. The flag recommended by the MCB was adopted on August 7, 2023.

Design Description: The stylized M ties to Moberly and nods at our state, Missouri. The shape M is a series of line intersections, just like Moberly’s major corridors highway 24 & 63 that facilitate easy access to our community. The M is widened to represent our future growth and continued progress.
The interpretive rail tracks are included to remind us of the importance rail has played in the development of our city. The section of track included in this design is leading us to progress while connecting our past to our future.
The Five Stars are included to highlight Moberly’s historic connection to General Omar Bradley but also to a goal of being ranked the best.
The color blue represents our city’s historic use of blue in their branding efforts as well as trust, loyalty, and stability. The attributes we strive to uphold as a city. The color yellow represents Moberly’s agricultural background as well as Moberly’s optimistic outlook on our future.
The color white represents unity and goodness. It is used to balance the design but also to represent Moberly’s goal of uniting together to support Moberly first.
To be noted, this Flag was designed to be readable from both the front and back.

"The background of the flag is white. The three vertical lines are royal blue. The lettering inside the vertical lines is gold. The circle itself and all designs therein are royal blue. The inside and outside of the circle is fringed gold."

My description: Three vertical lines beginning from the hoist - the first is widest and contains "MOBERLY" and is not going to the bottom, where "MO." is placed in white square. The second is thinner and contains "THE MAGIC CITY". The third is the thinnest. They are all on about one third of all the flag. On the rest of the flag is a seal-like circle divided in three equal fields - first with a flower, wheat and corn, the second with industry wheels and a church and buildings, and the third contains a train. The official meaning: "The vertical lines suggest development. The flower represents growth. The wheat and corn represent the agriculture aspect of the community. The train is from the seal of the City of Moberly. The cog-wheels, church and building represent business, industry, religion and health care in the community. The circle represents the railroad tracks which was the birth of Moberly, Missouri, while also representing that growth is never-ending. The three lines separating the symbols indicates peace. The colors, white flag, royal blue and gold represent the Magic City, Moberly, Missouri."
