The independent urban communes of Santa Maria and Santo André merged in 2013, forming the new Estremoz commune, officially  Estremoz (Santa Maria e Santo André).

Shield Or, an embattled tower Gules, masoned Sable with windows Or, flanked by two inescutcheons Azure, both charged with 11 plates, in central chief a cross fleury Vert. Mural crown with three visible towers  (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "ESTREMOZ - SANTA MARIA"
Meaning:
The cross is referring to the Avis Order, the inescutcheons are Portuguese national symbols, and the tower probably is referring to a local fortress.

Santa Maria was one of the two urban communes of Estremoz Municipality. It had 6284 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 63,3 km².

Meaning:
The saltire is an attribute of St. Andrew (Portuguese: Santo André).

Santo André was one of the two urban communes of Estremoz Municipality. It had 2 378 inhabitants in 2011 and covered just 0,6 km². Santo André was the territory of the walled city, including the castle. It had been completely surrounded by the territory of Santa Maria Commune.
