No Flag

It appears Amatenango de la Frontera does not use a municipal flag.

Coat of Arms

The council did not inform me on the history of its coat of arms, but sent a description. Above the shield is a crown, a representation of its historic battles and the fusion of the Spanish and indigenous races. Under the shield is a ribbon which reads "RECINTO DE LOS AMATES" [Enclosure of the Fig Trees]. The border of the shield reads "AMATENANGO DE LA FRONTERA". It is divided into two sections. The upper section depicts the "Pico de Loro" hill, as well as the confluence of the Agua Caliente and Grijalva River at its foot, a representation of its geography. The lower section depicts a fig tree, a representation of its name. Above it is an open book reading "15 DE ENERO DE 1892", when it received the name of Amatenango de la Frontera also used to differentiate it from Amatenango del Valle. To the sides of the tree, 14 stars are seen in total representing the number of ejidos in the Municipality.
