The French River Metis are descendants of the Woodland Metis who lived in the 
French River Area. Our members come from the villages of Noelville, St-Charles, 
Alban, Monetville, Markstay, Hagar, Warren and surrounding areas. 
The 
French River Metis are affiliated with OCAP (Ontario Coalition of Aboriginal 
People) and are associated with other neighbouring communities such as West 
Nipissing Metis.
Even though our French-Canadian roots run deep, and we 
carry on many of these traditions, we also enjoy practicing some of the 
Ceremonials and Spirituality of our aboriginal heritage. From our First Nations 
relatives, we incorporate the medicine wheel, tobacco offerings, the eagle 
feather, smudging, the sacred fire and many other traditions.
In 2017 
FRMT signed Treaty #2 with Metis Nation of Canada for partnership.
