Tiandejiao 天德教 (full name: Tiande shengjiao 天德聖教), also known in English as
the Tiande Religion, is a syncretic religion encompassing Confucianism,
Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity and Islam. Founded in China in 1927, and now one
of the larger New Religious Movements in Taiwan, it also has a presence in Hong
Kong.
The Tiandejiao flag is yellow, bearing a highly stylized letter for
'heart' (心) in red at the centre, surrounded by the Doctrine of Twenty
Characters in black, which reads counterclockwise from the top, meaning:
Loyalty, Forgiveness, Integrity, Brightness, Ethic;
Uprightness,
Righteousness, Trust, Forbearance, Impartiality;
Broadness,
Filial Piety, Benevolence, Mercifulness, Consciousness;
Temperance,
Frugality, Genuineness, Propriety, Harmony.
Tiandejiao should not be
confused with the Dejiao 德教, a similarly syncretic
religion of a separate origin with a different flag.
