It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of white and green.

Shield Vert, a fess Argent charged with a cross of the Order of the Knights of Christ, in chief a royal coronet Or gemmed Gules, in base three olive branches Or fruited Sable tied Argent. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "ALGODRES - FORNOS DE ALGODRES".
Meaning:
The cross is reminding on the fact that in  Algodres had been a commandery of the Order of the Knights of Christ. The olive branches are representing agriculture, especially oliviculture as main business line. The coronet is symbolising gained privileges.
