Sentinelle in Pedi is a NGO born in 2013 in defense of freedom of expression which called into question the Scalfarotto bill, presented on May 16, 2013, approved by the Chamber of Deputies but not looked at in the Senate, thus archived, as necessary to combat episodes of violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation. This text had the purpose of establishing the crime of homophobia (and more broadly homotransphobia), but did not explain the specifics of the crime, leaving the judge the faculty to establish what was discrimination and what was instead a mere opinion. As it was formulated, anyone who had referred to a family model based on the stable and fruitful union between a man and a woman, or had been against the adoption of children by same-sex couples, could have been denounced, risking prison. The group also advocates for the uniqueness of marriage between a man and a woman and the right of children to have a father and a mother. The process of this law was stopped. It is worth mentioning that the same Deputy, Ivan Scalfarotto, introduced on March 10, 2023 a bill which aimed to legalize same-sex marriage in the country.

The Standing Sentinels have adopted the same style as the French "Veilleurs Debout" (English: Standing Watchmen) who, in an orderly and firm silence, two meters away from each other, facing the same direction, kept vigil in 2013 in front of the buildings of power in opposition to the Taubira law (the so-called mariage pour tous, or "equal marriage", also known as same sex marriage). A silent presence to reiterate that it is not possible to silence the consciences of those who want to oppose evil and lies.

Flag

No official nor unofficial flag has been spotted yet for this movement although in at least one march, May 2015 in Foggia, the "Noi con Salvini" (English: Us with Salvini), a political party (December 19, 2014-2018) in support of Matteo Salvini, succeeded by the party "Lega per Salvini Premier" (English: League for Salvini Premier) and the informal succesor of the Lega Nord.
