Meaning:
The college was
founded in 1810, and became a licensed hall of the university in 1957. It also
trains men and women for ordained ministry among Baptist churches in Great
Britain and overseas. Regent's Park College traces its roots to the formation of
the London Baptist Education Society in 1752. The impetus for founding the
college arose from the fact that only members of the Church of England were
given places at ancient universities. The institution was renamed to Regent’s
Park Collge, after it had moved to Holford House in Regent’s Park in 1855. In
1927 the college moved to Oxford, thus 1927 is given as date of foundation
within some sources. Fish, cross, bible and the motto, meaning “The Lord (is)
God)" refer to the Christian (Baptist) background.
