"British Steel Limited is a long steel products business founded in 2016
with assets acquired from Tata Steel Europe (formerly known as Corus) by
Greybull Capital (official website http://greybull.co.uk).
The lineage
of the company dates back as far as March 22,1967 when "the ‘Iron and Steel
Act’ brought into public ownership about 90% of British Steelmaking. The
country's non-integrated steelmaking and re-rolling companies, including half
of the specialised steel
production facilities were left in the private
sector with a number of small companies. On July 28, 1967 BSC (British Steel
Corporation) was formed from the UK's 14 main steel producing companies"
including Vickers Armstrong (see message #226790).
"The British Steel
Act 1988 transferred the assets of the Corporation to British Steel, a
company registered under the Companies Act and on December 5, 1988, dealings
in shares opened at The Stock Exchange. In 1999, Corus was formed through
the merger of British Steel and Koninklijke Hoogovens on October 6, 1999. On January 31, 2007
Tata Steel
bought Corus which
became Tata Steel in Europe. The company rebranded to Tata Steel in 2010. Finally, on June 1, 2016 Greybull Capital purchased Tata Steel in
Europe’s Long Products Europe business. This new business, comprised of
sections, special profiles and wire rod manufacturing across the UK and rail
manufacturing across the UK and France was named British Steel.
