Shield parted per fess, above Argent a demi-lion issuant Gules armed and tongued Azure, beneath Azure a sickle Argent hafted Or.
Meaning:
Remscheid became a city in 1808. The arms are based on a seal from 1556. The demi-lion issuant is a differentiation of the family arms of Counts of Berg, who ruled the area in the 16th century. The sickle represents the speciality of the local forges, who were well known in a wide area.

The arms were approved on 18 February 1854.
