The previous flag of L'Ange-Gardien is vertically divided green-yellow by a blue
curved stripe. This symbolizes Rivière du Lièvre (Hare's River) crossing the
municipal territory and highlights the two banks on which the town is
established. Blue and green represent water and the natural environment.
The green part is charged with two yellow wheat spikes, representing
agriculture, while the yellow part is charged with four green firs,
  representing forestry.
The white "hyphen" in the center represents unity of
  all inhabitants of the town.

The description on the municipal website uses "trait d'union", that is,
typographically speaking "a hyphen". However, "trait d'union" has a more general
meaning in French, being used as a metaphor for "link" or "bond". This secondary
meaning was probably intended in the official description, whatever the graphic
representation of the link is.
A literal description could "the infinity
symbol crossed by the blue stripe", which would completely blur the intended
meaning of the symbol.
