The municipality of Jupiá (2,158 inhabitants in 2012; 9,171 ha) is located on
the border with Paraná, 700 km north-west of Florianópolis.
Jupiá was
established by Edmar Hack and his father, Guilherme Hack, founders of Industrial
Colonizadora Hack e Ltda. The first settlers, the Nichetti, Accorsi and Mazetto
families, settled the place in 1953; they were joined the next year by the
Spinello and Cividini families.
The municipality of Jupiá was established by
State Law No. 9,890 promulgated on 19 July 1995, separating from Galvão, and
inaugurated on 1 January 1997.
