The municipality of Serafina Corrêa (17,502 inhabitants in 2019; 16,329 ha) is located 220 km north of Porto Alegre.

A green flag with three narrow red horizontally stripes, bordered white, with
a white triangle extending from the hoist bearing the municipal coat of arms.

The flag and arms of Serafina Corrêa are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 210
promulgated on 10 May 1972.
Article 6.
The municipal flag of Serafina
Corrêa, designed by the heraldist Arcinoé Antonio Peixoto de Faria, shall be
horizontally tierced, with green quarters formed by three white stripes
superimposed with red stripes, starting from a white triangle placed along the
hoist and charged with the municipal coat of arms.
§1. The flag style
obeys the Portuguese heraldry tradition, and its inherited canons and rules,
prescribing that municipal flags have to be divided in eight or six horizontal
stripes, quartered or divided in three parts, featuring the same colors as the
field of the coat of arms and in the center or at hoist a geometrical figure
inscribing the municipal coat of arms.
§2. The coat of arms represents on the
flag the municipal government while the green triangle represents the town as
the municipal seat. The white stripes charged with red stripes starting from the
triangle and quartering the flag represent the spread of municipal power all
over the territory. The green quarters represent the rural estates scattered
over the municipal territory.
§3. Green is a symbol of honor, civility,
courtesy, abundance and glee; white is a symbol of peace, friendship, work,
prosperity, purity, and religious feeling; red is a symbol of patriotic love,
dedication, audacity, intrepidity, courage and valiance.
Article 7.
In
compliance with heraldic rules, the municipal flag shall have the official
dimensions adopted for the national flag, 14 units in width on 20 units in
length.
Article 19.
The coat of arms of Serafina Corrêa, designed by
the heraldist Arcinoé Antonio Peixoto de Faria,is desribed as follows:
A
Samnite shield surmounted by a six-towered mural crown argent. On a field argent
an escutcheon gules charged with an eagle sable inescutcheon or fretty gules;
the escutcheon surmounted by a virol sable, the eagle surmounted by a crown
gules. In base vert a pig passant sable superimposed to a cogwheel gules
surrounded dexter by a plow sinister by a tractor all sable.
The shield
supported dexter by a maize plant and two wheat plants proper sinister by a
soybean plant and grapes proper crossed in base and superimposed by a scroll
gules containing in letters argent the toponym "Serafina Corrêa" surrounded by
date "25/07/1960".
§1. The coat of arms has the following symbolic
interpretation:
a) The Samnite shield, introduced to Portugal under French
influence, was inherited by Brazilian heraldry to evoke the colonizing race and
main builder of the nation;
b) The mural crown surmounting the shield is the
universal symbol of coat of arms of domains; argent (silver) with six towers,
four visible in perspective, it classifies the town as a municipality seat.
c) Argent (silver) is a symbol of peace, friendship, work, prosperity, purity
and religious feeling.
d) The escutcheon reproduces the arms of the Corrêa,
recalling the town's namesake, Serafina Corrêa.
e) Gules (red) is a symbol of
dedication, audacity, intrepidity, courage and valiance.
f) The heraldic
eagle is a symbol of benign-ness, knowledge and liberty, because this bird,
being fierce, does not take revenge on smaller animals. The Persians, the
Egyptians and the Romans featured it on their standards as a presage of triumph;
it is, therefore, the symbol of power and boldness required to obtain great
achievements.
g) Sable (black) is a symbol of prudence, moderation,
knowledge, science, honesty and constancy.
h) The fret gules (red) on the
field or (gold), recalling interlaced chains ["correas"] is featured on the arms
of the Corrêa family.
i) The base [redundant description skipped] recalls
that agriculture and cattle-breeding, especially highly developed and
industrialized pig-breeding, are the municipality's main sources of income.
j) Vert (green) is the heraldic symbol of honor, civility, courtesy, glee and
abundance. It is the symbol of hope.
k) The outer ornaments, maize, wheat,
soybean and grapes, represent the main products of the generous and fertile
soil.
i) On a scroll gules (red), in argent (silver) letters the identifying
toponym "Serafina Corrêa" surrounded by the date of political and administrative
emancipation, "25/07/1960".
