The flag and arms of Salvador das Missões are prescribed by Municipal Law No.
74 promulgated on 8 September 1994.

The flag is diagonally divided yellow-green
by an ascending green-yellow diagonal fanning stripes, charged in the center
with a white oval featuring the municipal coat of arms in the center.

The coat of
arms represent the diverse characteristics of the municipality of Salvador das
Missões. A missionary cross symbolizes the religious feelings of people,
everlasting since the origin. The cogwheel symbolizes all kinds of industry and
also local commerce. The symbol of Cooperativism represents the best alternative
for a successful future to small municipalities, demonstrated by union of people
aspiring to common goals. Cooperativism is a highly positive feature of the
municipality.
The two main rivers, fundamental for the hydrographic network,
Comandaí in the north and Ijuí in the south, are featured on a landscape
represented by smallholders' farms. The diverse colors symbolize the variety of
crops in different maturation stages.
The family's main issue is children's
education. Accordingly, the writing "Salvador das Missões - 20 de Março de 1992"
is inscribed on a book. On both sides of the shield are featured the main crops
in the municipality, even if primary production is now very diversified.
