The United Houma Nation was created in 1979 by the merging of the Houma Tribes and the Houma Alliance. It is a State Recognized Tribe of Louisiana.

Wikipedia shows a white flag with the logo slightly eccentric, uploaded in 2006, that is anterior to the one in FOTW (2012). A former flag?

The website nativeheritageproject.com shows the old Houma war emblem, beside John Swanton in 1907, who contributed to their revival as a tribe. The emblem represents a red crayfish (Saktci-Homma), widespread in Louisiana and unfavorably known in Europe as an invasive species. Houma means "red" and is at origin of the nickname "Redskin people" given by Europeans to American Natives, it is found in Muskogean names like in "Oklahoma".
