On 2 March 2012, Melody Bodette reported on "Vermont Public Radio" that Monkton voters are expected to pick up a flag on Town Meeting Day. The flag contest was organized by Jonathan Corcoran, from the Monkton Community Coffeehouse, in the context of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the town. Out of 34 submitted proposals, a panel of eight judges selected five contenders. On Town Meeting Days, the voters will have to vote for their three preferred designs. The new flag will be unveiled on 24 June 2012. The proposed designs were kept "secrete" but some information leaked. Corcoran said that "some common themes highlight the town's rural character, iconic buildings, conservation and agriculture". Moreover, a photo shows the selecting panel at work:

According to www.boston.com/news/education/k_12/articles/2012/03/27/vt_town_has_new_flag_for_250th_anniversary, the flag will be dedicated on the anniversary on 24 June, but has already been chosen.

At monktonvt.com/2012/03/26/monkton-voters-choose-town-flag-order-now we see the flag - a landscape of purple hills, green woods, blue river and yellow/green fields below a blue sky. The flag, designed by Mt Abraham Union High art teacher Linda Reynolds, received 70% of the vote at a town meeting.

The 34 designs will be posted on the Monkton Talk website www.monktontalk.org, and website www.monktoncc.org and Facebook page of the Monkton Community Coffeehouse.
