About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of blue and white.

Coat of arms

[Lumiar commune (Lisboa) CoA] image by Sérgio Horta, 28 Nov 2014

Shield Azure semy of candles Argent flamed Gules and Or, over all a bendy baston bendy Or topped by a cross and fixing a white pennant (flamula) bearing an off-centred throughout cross. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters"FREGUESIA DO LUMIAR".
The candles are canting elements. A "lumiário" is a light or candlestick. The baston with pennant probably is of that kind to be found with Paschal Lambs and thus seems to be an attribute of the local patron saint St. John the Baptist.

Flag and arms approved by CHAAP on 16 May 1990, published in the official journal Diário da República: III Série on 19 May 2006
