About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field gyronny of eight of yellow and purple.

Coat of arms

The current coat of arms has a mural crown Argent with five visible towers (city rank) . The inscription of the scroll is "MUNICíPIO DE ALBERGARIA-A-VELHA". Finally the cross Azure of the former arms (see below) was replaced by a throughout cross Azure.

It is a fairly typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a quartered purple over yellow field.

Shield Or, a couped cross Azure free, bordure Sable with eight heraldic roses Or barbed Vert seeded Gules, mural crown Argent of four towers (town status), white scroll reading in black capitals. "VILA DE ALBERGARIA-A-VELHA".
Meaning:
The cross is representing the Holy Cross, which is the local patron of former Albergaria-a-Velha Commune. Each rose is representing one of the pre-2013 communes.

Presentation of Albergaria-a-Velha

This municipality has 22 220 inhabitants in 145 km² (six communes) and belongs to the old province and region to be of Beira Litoral and to the current District of Aveiro. It was upgraded to a city in April 2011.
